Picasa is a user-friendly and a very easy-to-use photo editing software used by many people. Although it cannot be as good as Photoshop, Picasa can be used for fast-editing. It allows you to: change colour temperature, edit shadows, highlights and also allows to use fill light. Moreover, it has 36 cool effects in which you can choose and edit. Some of them include: HDR-ish, Sharpen, B & W, Sepia, Negative etc.
As you can see, in the two photos on the left, the bottom picture is looking more colourful and more nicer. These are just two photos with the above one- before edited and the below one- edited with Picasa. This effect in Picasa is called the boost effect which boosts the colour of the image you have chosen. You can boost to the amount you like.
You can crop, straighten, correct red eye and add text using Picasa. You can see some screenshots of the program below.
